Outline
The Mathematics & Statistics Rural Student Scholarship was established to encourage rural students to undertake undergraduate study (including combined degrees) at UNSW with a Mathematics major or study plan.
Application Process
This scholarship is included in the School of Mathematics & Statistics Entry Awards and Scholarships (UGCA1731). In order to be potentially considered for this scholarship please apply via the advertisement for the School of Mathematics & Statistics Entry Awards and Scholarships (UGCA1731).
Eligibility
To be eligible applicants must:
- Be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident.
- Have completed the Higher School Certificate (or equivalent qualification) at a NSW rural High School in the year prior to commencing study at UNSW, or two (2) years prior to commencing study provided that no tertiary study is undertaken in the meantime.
Note: Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle, Wollongong, the Blue Mountains and their surrounding areas are not classified as rural for the purposes of this Scholarship.
- Recipients must have achieved an ATAR (or equivalent) of at least 95 and a Mathematics Extension 1 and 2 total of at least 185.
- Be commencing full-time undergraduate study in the Bachelor of Science or combined Bachelor of Science program at UNSW, with a major or study plan in Mathematics.
Selection
Applicants will be assessed on the basis of:
- Academic merit
- Mathematics Extension 1 and 2 results
- Consideration will also be given to potential to contribute to and participate in the life of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, through involvement in such activities as the Student Mathematical Society (MathSoc) or mentoring younger students.
