Outline

The Thyne Reid Foundation Women in Engineering Scholarship aims to encourage and assist a female student by offering a Woman in Engineering Scholarship to undertake a degree in any Bachelor of Engineering Honours) program offered by UNSW Engineering, excluding Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Flexible First Year).

Application Process

This scholarship is included in the Women In Engineering Scholarship Common Application. In order to be potentially considered for this scholarship please apply via the advertisement for the Women In Engineering Scholarships(UGCE1400)
Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident
  • Be Female
  • Have completed the NSW HSC (or interstate equivalent) or IB either:
    • In the year prior to commencing study at UNSW, or
    • In the previous two years prior to commencing at UNSW, provided no tertiary study was undertaken during this period; and
  • Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or dual degree) in one of the following:
    • Single Degrees: The recipient must be commencing full-time undergraduate study in any Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program offered by UNSW Engineering.
    • Dual Degrees: Enrolment in a dual degree in combination with one of the above degrees is also permissible, but the tenure of the scholarship will remain at a maximum of four years unless approved by the sponsor.
    • Exclusions: B Engineering (Honours) (Flexible First Year)

Selection

Applicants will be assessed on the basis of:

  • Personal qualities, for example: involvement and achievement in school and community activities, hobbies, strong leadership and communication skills
  • Academic merit (estimated ATAR of 91)
  • Aptitude and commitment to a career in engineering
  • Good academic ability in mathematics, English and science
Interviews
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview.
