UNSW Exchange Scholarships & Awards for 2024

Each year UNSW has a number of scholarships and awards available to support UNSW coursework students undertaking an overseas Exchange Program (outbound Exchange). Scholarships and awards are intended to assist with the costs of studying overseas, and are awarded across a range of areas.

University students from partner universities (inbound Exchange) or who are participating in the Study Abroad program at UNSW (inbound Exchange), should contact the Study Abroad and Exchange team for information on available scholarships and awards.

MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS


Eligible UNSW students participating in an Official Exchange Program in 2024 are not required to submit an application for the awards listed in this section. Eligible students will be automatically considered for these awards.

Offers for these awards will be made to eligible students on a competitive basis using your Weighted Average Mark (WAM). You do not need to submit any specific scholarship application or additional supporting documentation to be considered.

EQUITY SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS 

 

UNSW will participate in October 2023 Round 1 and January 2024 Round 1 of the UAC Equity Round. 

To be considered for the following, applicants must have completed a UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) application for 2023-24 and be a UNSW student participating in an Official Exchange Program in 2024. Eligible students with a 2023-24 UAC Equity Scholarship application will be automatically considered for these awards.

Term 1 Exchange Students whom wish to be considered for equity scholarships and awards must apply to UAC by 11:59pm, 23 September 2023. 

Term 3 Exchange Students whom wish to be considered for equity scholarships and awards must apply to UAC by 11:59pm, 29 December 2023. 

Equity awards available in 2024 for outbound Exchange students:

  • Faculty of Engineering Exchange Assistance Award (UGTR1041)
  • UNSW Student Exchange Equity Scholarships (UGTR1046)

OTHER EXCHANGE-RELATED SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS 


The following scholarships, awards and grants may also be available to support overseas exchange. Please note that these are not necessarily administered by UNSW Scholarships, though we will endeavour to provide further information where possible.

  • New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant for Exchange
  • New Colombo Plan Scholarship 

The New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant for Exchange does not require a dedicated application. You will be automatically considered for this grant and will be notified via email if successful in receiving an offer. Applications for the New Colombo Plan Scholarship are hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, and are open for a limited time period. Applications for the 2024 offering of the New Colombo Plan Scholarship are closed. Applications for 2025 are expected to open around April 2024. We will provide further information on this page once applications are open.

UNSW Student Exchange Achievement Award (UGTR1048)

Value

$5,000 paid as a one-off lump sum.

Application Process

There is no application required for this Award.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be or currently enrolled in any UNSW coursework program; and
  • Be selected to undertake a UNSW Exchange Program; and
  • Be accepted by a UNSW Exchange Partner Institution.

Selection Criteria

Each candidate will be automatically assessed on their ability to demonstrate:

  • Academic Merit
UNSW Business School BCom (International) Exchange Travel Award (UGTR1052)

Value

$5,000 paid as a one-off lump sum.

Application Process

There is no application required for this Award.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Meet the eligibility criteria for an Official UNSW Exchange Program; and,
  • Have been accepted by an Official UNSW Exchange Program overseas partner institution and accepted the offer; and,
  • Be enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce (International) (3558) program.

Selection Criteria

Each candidate will be automatically assessed on their ability to demonstrate:

UNSW Student Exchange Engineering Award (UGTR1049)

Value

$2,000 paid as a one-off lump sum.

Application Process

There is no application required for this Award.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Meet the eligibility criteria for an Official UNSW Exchange Program; and,
  • Have been accepted by an Official UNSW Exchange Program overseas partner institution and accepted the offer; and,
  • Be enrolled in a UNSW coursework program offered by the Faculty of Engineering.

Selection Criteria

Each candidate will be automatically assessed on their ability to demonstrate:

Vincent Lo Award (UGTR1011)

Value

$5,000 paid as a one-off lump sum.

Application Process

There is no application required for this Award.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in an eligible UNSW degree program; and
  • Be eligible and have been accepted to undertake a UNSW Official Exchange Program at a UNSW exchange partner university; and
  • Be studying a Business degree component while on exchange.

Selection Criteria

Each candidate will be automatically assessed on their ability to demonstrate:

Harry Manson Award (UGTR1012)

Value

$6,000 paid as a one-off lump sum.

Application Process

There is no application required for this Award.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident; and, 
  • Meet the eligibility criteria for an Official UNSW Exchange Program; and,
  • Have been approved to undertake exchange for one or two semester(s) at an approved international University; and,
  • Be enrolled in a UNSW undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program.
  • Not be in receipt of another award and/ or scholarship relating to their exchange. 

Selection Criteria

Each candidate will be automatically assessed on their ability to demonstrate:

Faculty of Engineering Exchange Assistance Award (UGTR1041)

Value

$5,000 paid as a one-off lump sum.

Application Process

There is no application required for this Award. Although, an active UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) application is required.

Term 1 Exchange Students whom wish to be considered for equity scholarships and awards must apply to UAC by 11:59pm, 23 September 2023. 

Term 3 Exchange Students whom wish to be considered for equity scholarships and awards must apply to UAC by 11:59pm, 29 December 2023. 

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Meet the eligibility criteria for an Official UNSW Exchange Program; and,
  • Have been accepted by an Official UNSW Exchange Program overseas partner institution and accepted the offer; and,
  • Be enrolled in a UNSW undergraduate coursework program offered by the Faculty of Engineering; and.
  • Demonstrate at least one disadvantage through a UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) application.

Selection Criteria

Each candidate will be considered on the basis of their UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) application and ability to demonstrate one or more of the identified criteria for equity scholarships. Awards will be allocated to students identified to be in the greatest needed based on the UAC data provided.

UNSW Student Exchange Equity Scholarships (UGTR1046)

Value

$12,000 paid as a one-off lump sum.

Application Process

There is no application required for this Award. Although, an active UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) application is required.

Term 1 Exchange Students whom wish to be considered for equity scholarships and awards must apply to UAC by 11:59pm, 23 September 2023. 

Term 3 Exchange Students whom wish to be considered for equity scholarships and awards must apply to UAC by 11:59pm, 29 December 2023. 

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Meet the eligibility criteria for an Official UNSW Exchange Program; and,
  • Have been accepted by an Official UNSW Exchange Program overseas partner institution and accepted the offer; and,
  • Be enrolled in a UNSW undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program; and.
  • Demonstrate at least one disadvantage through a UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) application.

Selection Criteria

Each candidate will be considered on the basis of their UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) application and ability to demonstrate one or more of the identified criteria for equity scholarships. Awards will be allocated to students identified to be in the greatest needed based on the UAC data provided.

Douglas N Daft Exchange Award (UGTR1024)

Value

$5,000 paid as a one-off lump sum.

Application Process

There is no application required for this Award.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident (including Permanent Humantarian Visa Holders) or New Zealand Citizen; and, 
  • Be currently enrolled in an eligible UNSW degree program offered by the UNSW Business School
  • Be eligible and have been accepted to undertake a UNSW Official Exchange Program at a UNSW exchange partner university in Asia; and
  • Be enrolled in a UNSW Business School undergraduate coursework degree program (enrolment in a double degree in combination with a UNSW Business School program is also permissible.

Selection Criteria

Each candidate will be automatically assessed on their ability to demonstrate:

  • Academic Merit
Arts & Social Sciences South East Asia Travel Award (PUTR1011)

Value

$10,000 paid as a one-off lump sum.

Application Process

There is no application required for this Award.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be studying in an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Coursework program offered through the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. 
  • Be eligible and have been accepted to undertake a UNSW Official Exchange Program at a UNSW exchange partner university in South East Asia; and
  • Preference may be given to students travelling to Indonesia.
