Arts & Social Sciences Explorer Scholarship
UGCA1409
The Arts & Social Sciences Explorer Scholarship was established to recognise outstanding students who are intellectually adventurous and demonstrate significant engagement with critical social issues affecting Australian society and/or impacting upon our position in the region.
- Be an Australian Citizen or Australia Permanent Resident
- Be commencing a full-time Undergraduate (single or dual) program at the UNSW Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in 2020
- Have completed the Higher School Certificate (or equivalent qualification) in the year prior to commencing study at UNSW, or two (2) years prior to commencing study provided no tertiary study was undertaken in this period.
Applicants will be assessed on the basis of:
- Academic merit: must have obtained an ATAR (or the equivalent) of 90 or above
- Leadership skills
- Demonstrated understanding of key national social issues.
Applicants will be required to submit a 1000 word opinion piece in their supporting documents on an issue of national importance with significant social impact.
The piece should articulate the nature and scope of the issue, identify the stakeholders and context, and outline the key considerations required to address the issue in a meaningful way. As this is an opinion piece formal referencing is not required. The shorter length reflects the need to be articulate, thoughtful and succinct when engaging in public debate on critical issues.
