John Monash Scholarship
The John Monash Scholarship enables outstanding Australians to pursue a master's or PhD program at any world-class university outside of Australia, with no restrictions on field of study or institution.
If successful, you will receive $100,000 AUD per year for up to $300,000 AUD. The scholarship can be used for tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses. Scholars also receive personalised career support and leadership development through the Leadership Academy.
Eligibility
Who can apply?
- Australian citizens
- Applicants who have completed (or will complete by the end of 2026) an undergraduate degree at an Australian university
- Applicants planning to start a full-time master's or PhD at an overseas university in 2027
Who can't apply?
- Applicants seeking funding for current postgraduate study or programs starting in 2026
- Applicants planning to study at an Australian university
- Applicants who already hold a Rhodes, Fulbright, or Ramsay scholarship for the same program
Selection Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Academic excellence - demonstrated through results, awards, publications or professional achievements (no minimum GPA required)
- Leadership potential - demonstrated in academic, professional or community settings
- Vision for Australia - a clear career plan that contributes to Australia?s future
Scholarship Value
The scholarship provides an annual stipend of $100,000 AUD for up to three years.
- One-year master's: $100,000 AUD
- Two-year master's: $200,000 AUD
- Three-year PhD: $300,000 AUD
Funds can be used for:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Living expenses
A one-off travel allowance is also provided.
University and Program
There are no restrictions on university choice, provided the institution is outside Australia and supports your career goals.

All materials, including referee submissions, must be submitted on time. Late applications will not be accepted.
