UNSW offers a wide range of Equity Scholarships to assist commencing students to undertake full-time study for the standard duration of their coursework degree program.

How to Apply

Candidates will be considered on the basis of their UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) application. UAC Equity Scholarship applications for 2021-2022 are now open. If you previously submitted an Equity scholarship application during the 2020-2021 period, you will need to submit a new application to continue being considered for Equity scholarships until March 2022.

UNSW will be participating in the following UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) Offer Rounds for students commencing or currently enrolled in study at UNSW:

  • May Round 1: Apply by Friday 30 April 2021
  • June Round 2: Apply by Friday 11 June 2021
  • September Round 1: Apply by Friday 27 August 2021

UNSW may participate in further offer rounds throughout the year depending on the number of scholarships available. Additional offer rounds will be listed on UAC.

Students who have submitted an ES application via UAC and are successful will receive a notification from UAC and an official offer letter from UNSW Scholarships. UNSW may also make scholarship offers directly to successful applicants.

Our Equity Scholarship program for 2021 includes:

Scholarship Name Description Value and Duration
UNSW Accommodation Scholarship

A limited number of scholarships are available to assists commencing undergraduate or postgraduate coursework students with accommodation costs while studying at UNSW. Students must have applied and received an offer to reside at any UNSW on-campus accommodation to be eligible. The Scholarship will be paid as accommodation fees directly to UNSW Student Accommodation.

In the event that a recipient is receiving the Residential Cost Option (RCO) the minimum value of the scholarship will be paid as a $7,000 stipend towards living allowance.

$25,000 p.a. towards residential fees for standard program duration
Sydney Airport SYD100 Scholarship

Established to support educationally disadvantaged students undertaking study at the UNSW School of Aviation. The Scholarship will be paid directly towards accommodation fees and tuition fees.

Students must have received an offer to a Commonwealth Supported Place in a Bachelor of Aviation Management / Commerce or Bachelor of Aviation Management (with option to complete honours).

$25,000 p.a. towards residential fees and full tuition fees for 4 years
Origin Foundations Grant King Indigenous Scholarships

Assists Indigenous students commencing a degree program in the Faculty of Science or Faculty of Engineering at UNSW.

Two scholarships are available; one will be offered for residence at Shalom College and one will be offered for residence to any UNSW residential accommodation.

Students must have applied and received an offer to reside at any UNSW on-campus accommodation to be eligible. The Scholarship will be paid as accommodation fees directly to UNSW Student Accommodation.

The recipients will also receive a UNSW President and Vice-Chancellors Equity Scholarship (UGCE1319) valued at $5,000 per annum stipend for the duration of a single or double degree program.

Adamsas Family Scholarship

Established to support undergraduate students from regional, rural and remote areas who have demonstrated they are from low socioeconomic backgrounds with an on-campus accommodation scholarship. Students must have applied and received an offer to reside at any UNSW on-campus accommodation to be eligible. The Scholarship will be paid as accommodation fees directly to UNSW Student Accommodation.

$25,000 p.a. towards residential fees for standard program duration up to 5 years
Emeritus Professor Marcus Taft Equity Scholarship in Psychology

The purpose of the Scholarship is to support students experiencing disadvantages to study either Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) or Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (Honours) in the School of Psychology, UNSW Sydney.

$25,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Macquarie Group Alumni Law Scholarship

The purpose of the Scholarship is to support students with a passion for law, experiencing educational disadvantage.

Bertha McKenzie Postgraduate Indigenous Scholarship Established to support Indigenous students to undertake a Masters by Coursework program at UNSW Sydney. Total value of $40,000 over the minimum program duration
Belgiorno-Nettis Scholarship

The purpose of the Scholarship is to increase diversity and provide an opportunity for candidates who otherwise may not be able to access an MBA at AGSM @ UNSW Business School.

Applicants must be commencing studies in one of the following disciplines:

  • AGSM MBA (Executive) program
  • AGSM MBAX program

Total value of $40,000 over the minimum program duration
Chik Fun Leung Scholarship Established to encourage talented students, who would not normally have the means to get a university education, to undertake full-time undergraduate study at the UNSW Business School. $14,000 p.a. for standard program duration
The Dean's PLT Equity Scholarships Established to support students from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake the UNSW Graduate Diploma in Legal Professional Practice (GDLPP).

There are three scholarships available; one scholarship will be reserved for Indigenous students and one scholarship will be reserved for refugee students

UNSW Access Scholarship Assists commencing undergraduate coursework students to undertake studies at UNSW. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
AMP Capital Law Equity Scholarship

Established to support students undertaking the UNSW Law Juris Doctor degree.

Juris Doctor (JD) Equity Scholarship

The Faculty of Law Juris Doctor Equity Scholarship was established to assist high achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds, or who are experiencing social and/or economic and/or educational disadvantage, to undertake the Juris Doctor Program at UNSW.

$10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Mattick Rural Endowed Scholarship Established to ssupport rural and/or remote students to undertake undergraduate study at UNSW Business School. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Maha Sinnathamby Education Equity Scholarship Established to support disadvantaged students to undertake an undergraduate degree at UNSW. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
William Spence Engineering Equity Scholarship Established to support disadvantaged students in Engineering. $10,000 p.a. for up to 5 years
Sir Arthur & Lady Renee George Endowed Scholarship

Established to support commencing students undertaking any undergraduate (single) degree program (except for degrees offered by UNSW Arts & Social Sciences or UNSW Art & Design).

Preference will be given to students who completed their secondary education at St Spyridon College, Maroubra NSW prior to commencing at UNSW.

UNSW Medicine Equity Scholarship Established to support students commencing full-time undergraduate study in the BMed/MD degree program at UNSW. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Kosmos Asset Management Scholarship in Economics (Equity) Established to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake study in Economics at the UNSW Business School. Double Law/Economics degrees are not eligible for this scholarship. $8,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Teresa Rice Memorial Law Scholarship

Not having finished high school, Teresa went to Seaforth Tech in 1973. She had four children under 15 and a working husband. She sat for the regular HSC, and got into UNSW Law on her mark. She studied at UNSW Law fulltime for five years while raising her children. She completed her last two years of Law at the same time as one of her children was studying his first two years of Law at UNSW. This scholarship is endowed by her family as a permanent memorial to Teresa who died in 1988.

Established to support commencing Law students in recognition of Teresa's achievements and for those who may be in a similar position (Sole Parents & Carers) to Teresa when she undertook her law degree at UNSW.

Joan Brown Memorial Scholarship Established to assist a female high school leaver student with financial assistance to undertake undergraduate study in Law at UNSW. $6,000 p.a. for standard program duration
UNSW Law Disability Support Scholarship Established to support students with a long-term medical condition or disability and who are in financial need. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Faculty of Science Indigenous Scholarship Established to support commencing students who identify as Indigenous Australian to undertake an undergraduate coursework degree in the Faculty of Science. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
David Barnsdall OAM Equity Scholarship Established to support a student experiencing disadvantages while studying an undergraduate degree program at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for up to 5 years
UNSW President and Vice-Chancellors Equity Scholarship Assists commencing undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students to undertake studies at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
U-Committee Scholarship Established to support women commmencing any undergraduate coursework degree program at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
UNSW Indigenous Scholarships Established to support Australian Indigenous students in their studies at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Wavelength International Indigenous Medical Scholarship Established to support an Indigenous student commencing undergraduate studies at UNSW Medicine. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture Postgraduate Equity Scholarship Established to give applicants who have endured hardship the support and opportunity to undertake a Master's degree (coursework) at UNSW Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture. Preference will be given to UNSW Alumni. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Humanities and Languages Equity Scholarship Established to encourage and support disadvantaged students commencing either the Bachelor of International Studies (single/dual degree) or any postgraduate coursework program of study run by the School of Humanities and Languages. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Elizabeth Ainsworth Endowed Scholarship Established to support educationally disadvantaged undergraduate students commencing studies in a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) at UNSW. Double degrees are permitted. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Adamo and Francesca Boncardo Equity Scholarship Established to encourage commencing students who attended a school recognised under the UNSW ASPIRE program (or similar program) to come to UNSW and study an undergraduate coursework degree program in any faculty. The scholarship will support students who may not otherwise be financially able to come to university. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Nicholas John Vargassoff Scholarship in City Planning Established to support a high school leaver undertaking a degree in the Bachelor of City Planning. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
SIDA Mary White Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Interior Architecture Established to support students undertaking study in the field of Interior Architecture at UNSW. Preference may be given to students from rural/remote areas. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Walton Family Construction Scholarship Established to support Indigenous students undertaking study in a Bachelor of Construction Management & Property (3332) at UNSW. Exclusion: Construction Management & Property (Honours) (4522). $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration (3 years)
Eva & Emery Balint Scholarship Established to support students undertaking study in a Bachelor of Construction Management & Property (3332) at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration (3 years)
Mattick Scholarship In Business Established to support students from single parent families who are experiencing financial or other disadvantage to undertake studies in an undergraduate program in the UNSW Business School at UNSW. $6,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Phillip Goldwyn Business Scholarship Established to support students support students at UNSW Business School. $5,000 p.a. for up to 5 years
Leung Ying Undergraduate Scholarship in Medicine Established support UNSW undergraduate students in the Faculty of Medicine. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Phillip Goldwyn Matraville High School Scholarship Established to support graduates of Matraville High School to complete an undergraduate degree program at UNSW Sydney. Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration up to 5 years
Ashadi Hopper and Beverly Ng Scholarship

Established to support a student in UNSW Art & Design from a low SES background. Preference will be given to a student from a low SES background.

$5,000 for standard program duration up to 5 years
Nick Waterlow Endowed Curatorial Scholarship

Established to support and encourage students to undertake the Master of Curating and Cultural Leadership program at UNSW Art & Design.

$5,000 for standard program duration
Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship (ICECS) Established to support Indigenous students from a regional or remote area experiencing financial hardship while undertaking their studies at UNSW. $7,000 for up to one year
UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture Undergraduate Equity Award Established to give the opportunity and provide support to disadvantaged, low SES candidates or candidates who have suffered hardship to undertake undergraduate studies within the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture. $5,000 for one year
Co-op Scholars Charitable Society Award Established to support commencing UNSW students in the Faculty of Engineering or UNSW Business School, who are experiencing disadvantage. The Award will support Engineering and Business students in alternate years. $5,000 for 1 year
Basser Equity Award

The purpose of the Award is to support commencing or current full-time undergraduate students who has been offered a place at Basser College and is experiencing educational disadvantage. One Award will be reserved for an Indigenous student.

NOTE: Applicants who are receiving the UNSW Accommodation Scholarship are not eligible for consideration

UNSW Pre-Entry and Enabling Programs Grant Assists students who are commencing an approved enabling or pre-entry program at UNSW, including:
  • UNSW Prep Program 17-19 years
  • University Preparation Program (Mature Age Pathway)
  • UNSW Indigenous Admission Scheme
  • UNSW Indigenous Preparatory Programs

$5,000 for one year for a full-time program.

Applicants undertaking a part-time pre-entry or enabling program will also be considered and will be eligible for half the value of the Grant.

Henry Salisch SPE Award in Petroleum Engineering Established to support continuing students undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Petroleum). $6,000 for one year
UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture Undergraduate Equity Award Established to give the opportunity and provide support to disadvantaged, low SES candidates or candidates who have suffered hardship to undertake undergraduate studies within the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture. $5,000 for one year
Theresa Lindsay Hayward Indigenous Social Work Award Established to support a currently enrolled Indigenous Australian student undertaking their third or fourth year field placement as part of the UNSW Bachelor of Social Work program. $5,000 for one year
Brenda Smith Award in Social Work Established to support students enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Work at UNSW who are experiencing educational disadvantage, particularly whilst completing their third and/or fourth year practicum $5,000 for one year
