UNSW offers a wide range of Equity Scholarships to assist commencing students to undertake full-time study for the standard duration of their coursework degree program.

How to Apply

Candidates will be considered on the basis of their UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) application. UAC Equity Scholarship applications for 2020-2021 are now open.

High School students who have submitted an application for the 2020-2021 UAC Educational Access Scheme (EAS) and received an offer of admission to UNSW will also be considered for equity scholarships. Please refer to the UAC EAS website for further information, including application dates.

UNSW will be participating in the following UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) Offer Rounds:

  • October Round 1: Apply by Wednesday 30 September 2020

UNSW may participate in further offer rounds throughout the year depending on the number of scholarships available. Additional offer rounds will be listed on UAC.

Students who have submitted an ES application via UAC and are successful will receive a notification from UAC and an official offer letter from UNSW Scholarships. UNSW may also make scholarship offers directly to successful applicants.

Our Equity Scholarship program for 2020 includes:

Scholarship Name Description Value and Duration
UNSW Accommodation Scholarship

Assists commencing undergraduate or postgraduate coursework students with accommodation costs while studying at UNSW. Students must have applied and received an offer to reside at any UNSW on-campus accommodation to be eligible. The Scholarship will be paid as accommodation fees directly to UNSW Student Accommodation.

In the event that a recipient is receiving the Residential Cost Option (RCO) the minimum value of the scholarship will be paid as a $7,000 stipend towards living allowance.

$25,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Sydney Airport SYD100 Scholarship

Established to support educationally disadvantaged students undertaking study at the UNSW School of Aviation. The Scholarship will be paid directly towards accommodation fees and tuition fees. Students must have received an offer to a Commonwealth support place.

$25,000 p.a. towards residential fees and full tuition fees for 4 years
J Holden Family Foundation Endowed Residential Scholarship

Established to support commencing undergraduate coursework students from rural, regional or remote areas with accommodation costs while studying at UNSW. Students must have applied and received an offer to reside at Basser College to be eligible. The Scholarship will be paid as accommodation fees directly to UNSW Student Accommodation.

$25,000 p.a. for standard program duration
The Landon-Smith Family Scholarship

Established to support Indigenous Australian students to undertake undergraduate study at UNSW. The Scholarship will either support the costs of accommodation for students residing at any UNSW on-campus accommodation or provide stipend support, depending on the recipient's circumstances.

Accommodation Scholarship for students residing in UNSW colleges:

  • Where a recipient is not receiving Residential Cost Option (RCO), or similar government support, the scholarship will be valued at $24,000 per annum for duration of program.
    • If the recipient chooses to leave UNSW accommodation, the scholarship will be available as a $7,000 per annum stipend, payable for the remaining duration of program.
  • Where a recipient is receiving the RCO or similar government support, the Scholarship will be available as a $7,000 per annum stipend for duration of program.
Stipend Scholarship for students not residing in UNSW on-campus accommodation:
  • The Scholarship is available as a $7,000 per annum stipend for duration of program.

Accommodation Scholarship: $24,000 p.a. for standard program duration

Bertha McKenzie Postgraduate Indigenous Scholarship Established to support Indigenous students to undertake a Masters by Coursework program at UNSW Sydney. $40,000 total
The Dean's PLT Equity Scholarships Established to support students from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake the UNSW Graduate Diploma in Legal Professional Practice (GDLPP).

There are three scholarships available; one scholarship will be reserved for Indigenous students and one scholarship will be reserved for refugee students

Banner Scholarship Established to support commencing students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to study an undergraduate coursework degree in Commerce and/or Science (Advanced Maths) at UNSW. $13,000 p.a. for standard program duration
UNSW Access Scholarship Assists commencing undergraduate coursework students to undertake studies at UNSW. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Maha Sinnathamby Education Equity Scholarship Established to support commencing students experiencing disadvantage to undertake any undergraduate coursework degree program at UNSW. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
The Childs Family Engineering Scholarship Established to support students commencing undergraduate study at UNSW Engineering. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Potishko Family Goldman Sachs Gives Award - Law Established to support students to undertake the UNSW Graduate Diploma in Legal Professional Practice (GDLPP). $10,000 p.a. for 1 year
ARUP Women in Engineering Scholarship

Established to support a female student to undertake an undergraduate degree in UNSW Engineering in one of the following disciplines:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering
  • Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Computer Science and Engineering.

Enrolment in a dual degree in combination with one of the above is also permissible. Both disciplines must be offered within the Faculty of Engineering.

Lilian Cohen Memorial Scholarship Established to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds commencing a UNSW Law undergraduate degree program. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
UNSW Medicine Equity Scholarship Established to support students commencing full-time undergraduate study in the BMed/MD degree program at UNSW. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Orthocentre Cooltherapy Scholarship in Medicine Established to encourage commencing students from low socio-economic backgrounds to undertake full-time undergraduate study in the BMed/MD degree program at UNSW. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
The Russell Family Scholarship for Indigenous Students Established to provide support for an Indigenous Australian student to undertake undergraduate study at UNSW Engineering. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Ian Hopkins Indigenous Scholarship Established to support and encourage Indigenous Australian students commencing full-time undergraduate study at UNSW Engineering. $10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Sir Arthur & Lady Renee George Endowed Scholarship

Established to support commencing students undertaking any undergraduate (single) degree program (except for degrees offered by UNSW Arts & Social Sciences or UNSW Art & Design).

Preference will be given to students who completed their secondary education at St Spyridon College, Maroubra NSW prior to commencing at UNSW.

Australasian Shared Services Association Scholarship Established to support a student experiencing disadvantage to undertake an undergraduate coursework degree in the UNSW Business School. $8,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Dr Ho Kok Tong Scholarship Established to encourage and support an undergraduate student commencing the BMed/MD degree program at UNSW. $8,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Michael Robins Equity Scholarship Established to support Indigenous students commencing an undergraduate degree program at UNSW. $7,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Ngunnagan Delanty Galvin Endowed Scholarship Established support disadvantaged students from rural backgrounds to undertake undergraduate studies at UNSW. $6,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Dr Shelley Phillips Scholarship Established to support women from rural or remote areas to undertake full-time undergraduate study at UNSW. $6,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Una and Harley Wood Endowed Scholarship for Indigenous Medical Students Established to support Indigenous students to undertake and achieve success in study in the undergraduate medicine program at UNSW $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Arthur and Rita Kwan Scholarship Established to to support disadvantaged students to undertake undergraduate study at UNSW in the Faculty of Medicine. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
UNSW President and Vice-Chancellors Equity Scholarship Assists commencing undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students to undertake studies at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
UNSW Alumni Association Equity Scholarship Assists high school leavers who are financially disadvantaged to undertake full-time undergraduate study at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
NAWIC Women in Built Environment Endowed Scholarship Established to support female students to undertake a degree in the Faculty of Built Environment at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
The Dean of Built Environment Equity Scholarship Established to support commencing students undertaking an undergraduate degree in any discipline at UNSW Built Environment. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Adamo and Francesca Boncardo Equity Scholarship Established to encourage commencing students who attended a school recognised under the UNSW ASPIRE program (or similar program) to come to UNSW and study an undergraduate coursework degree program in any faculty. The scholarship will support students who may not otherwise be financially able to come to university. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
UNSW Indigenous Scholarships Established to support Australian Indigenous students in their studies at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
U-Committee Scholarship Established to support women commmencing any undergraduate coursework degree program at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Neville Whiffen Memorial Scholarship Established to support students with disabilities to undertake study at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Girls Realm Guild Scholarship Established to support women experiencing disadvantage to commence any undergraduate coursework degree program at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Alumni Leaders Scholarship in Business Established in recognition of the gifts made by Alumni Leaders of the UNSW Business School. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage commencing students from a disadvantaged background to undertake an undergraduate coursework degree program at UNSW Business School. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
UNSW Business School Alumni Scholarship Established to encourage commencing students facing disadvantage to undertake an undergraduate coursework degree program at UNSW Business School. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Mattick Scholarship In Business Established to support students from single parent families who are experiencing financial or other disadvantage to undertake studies in an undergraduate program in the UNSW Business School at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Mandie Rebecca Birkensleigh Scholarship in Accounting Established to support students commencing a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Accounting) at the UNSW Business School despite financial constraints. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
UNSW Law Disability Support Scholarships Established to support commencing students with a long-term medical condition or disability and are in financial need to undertake a UNSW Law undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Ngoc Tram Nguyen Scholarship Established to support disadvantaged Law students from the public secondary schools in South Western Sydney to study at UNSW Faculty of Law. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Humanities and Languages Equity Scholarship Established to encourage and support disadvantaged students commencing either the Bachelor of International Studies (single/dual degree) or any postgraduate coursework program of study run by the School of Humanities and Languages. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Undergraduate Scholarship in Education Established to encourage and support educationally disadvantaged students to undertake undergraduate studies at the UNSW School of Education. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Stephen Parnaby Memorial Scholarship Established to support a student enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at UNSW Arts & Social Sciences who is experiencing educational disadvantage which may adversely affect their enrolment in university or progress in the program. $5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Leonard Fine Luxottica Memorial Scholarship Established to support undergraduate students experiencing educational disadvantage to undertake undergraduate study in one of the following disciplines:
  • Bachelor of Vision Science
  • Bachelor of Vision Science with Master of Clinical Optometry
$5,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Nick Waterlow Endowed Curatorial Scholarship

Established to support and encourage students to undertake the Master of Curating and Cultural Leadership program at UNSW Art & Design.

$5,000 for standard program duration
Pottage Family Scholarship

Established to support UNSW undergraduate students from rural or remote areas.

$5,000 for 4 years
UNSW Pre-Entry and Enabling Programs Grant Assists students who are commencing an approved enabling or pre-entry program at UNSW, including:
  • UNSW Prep Program 17-19 years
  • University Preparation Program (Mature Age Pathway)
  • UNSW Indigenous Admission Scheme
  • UNSW Indigenous Preparatory Programs

$5,000 for one year for a full-time program.

Applicants undertaking a part-time pre-entry or enabling program will also be considered and will be eligible for half the value of the Grant.

UNSW Law Society Scholarship

Established to support disadvantaged students to undertake an undergraduate Law or postgraduate Law program in the Faculty of Law at UNSW.

$5,000 for one year
Randwick Girls High School/UNSW Award

Established to encourage students from Randwick Girls High School who are who are undertaking the 2019 NSW HSC and are experiencing financial difficulty to undertake undergraduate study at UNSW.

$5,000 for one year
Randwick Boys High School/UNSW Award

Established to encourage students from Randwick Boys High School who are undertaking the 2019 NSW HSC and are experiencing financial difficulty to undertake undergraduate study at UNSW.

$5,000 for one year
Basser Equity Award

The purpose of the Award is to support commencing or current full-time undergraduate students who has been offered a place at Basser College and is experiencing educational disadvantage. One Award will be reserved for an Indigenous student.

NOTE: Applicants who are receiving the UNSW Accommodation Scholarship are not eligible for consideration

School of Computer Science and Engineering Award

The purpose of the Award is to support first year female students commencing study at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, UNSW.

$5,000 for one year
John Weeden Memorial Award

The purpose of the Award is to assist students who are experiencing educational disadvantage to undertake an undergraduate program at UNSW.

$5,000 for one year
AGSM 40th Anniversary Scholarship The purpose of the Scholarship is to make an award to encourage students experiencing educational disadvantage to study an MBA at AGSM. Full tuition fee waiver for the minimum program duration
Belgiorno-Nettis Scholarship

The purpose of the Scholarship is to increase diversity and provide an opportunity for candidates who otherwise may not be able to access an MBA at AGSM @ UNSW Business School.

Applicants must be commencing studies in one of the following disciplines:

  • AGSM MBA (Executive) program
  • AGSM MBAX program

Total value of $40,000 for the minimum program duration
AMP Capital Law Equity Scholarship

Established to support students undertaking the UNSW Law Juris Doctor degree.

$10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
Juris Doctor (JD) Equity Scholarship

The Faculty of Law Juris Doctor Equity Scholarship was established to assist high achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds, or who are experiencing social and/or economic and/or educational disadvantage, to undertake the Juris Doctor Program at UNSW.

$10,000 p.a. for standard program duration
OVRF-Maki Shiobara Scholarship

The purpose of the Scholarship is to support students experiencing educational disadvantage to study the Bachelor of Vision Science or Bachelor of Vision Science/Master of Clinical Optometry at UNSW.

Applicants must be commencing full-time in one of the following disciplines:

  • Bachelor of Vision Science
  • Bachelor of Vision Science with Master of Clinical Optometry

$6,000 for the minimum remaining duration of program.

John Ragnar Anderson Memorial Scholarship in Chemistry Established to support currently enrolled students undertaking an undergraduate degree program (single or dual) specialising in Chemistry, at the UNSW School of Chemistry. $5,000 for the minimum remaining duration of program.
Theresa Lindsay Hayward Indigenous Social Work Award Established to support a currently enrolled Indigenous Australian student undertaking their third or fourth year field placement as part of the UNSW Bachelor of Social Work program. $5,000 for one year
Brenda Smith Award in Social Work Established to support students enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Work at UNSW who are experiencing educational disadvantage, particularly whilst completing their third and/or fourth year practicum $5,000 for one year
The Vic Chapman Equity Award at Art & Design

Established to provide support to disadvantaged or low SES students currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program offered by UNSW Arts & Design.

Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time in one of the following disciplines:
