Outline

The Award has been established to provide academically gifted undergraduate students (or those with prior direct lab experience) an opportunity to conduct research on advanced and modern functional nanomaterials.

Each Award will have a value of $5000 per annum and will be payable for one year.

Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Be enrolled in full-time undergraduate study in one of the following programs:
    • Engineering (Hons) / Science
    • Material Science and Engineering
    • Mat Sci and Eng/BiomedEng
    • Mat Sci and Eng/Chem Eng
    • Mat Sci and Eng Hons/Eng Sci
  • Students must have completed all of the following courses: MATS2001, MATS2003, MATS2004, MATS2006, MATS2008, MATS3001, MATS3002
Selection
Applicants will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate:
  • Academic Merit - students must achieve a mark of at least 75 in each of the following courses: MATS2001, MATS2003, MATS2004, MATS2006, MATS2008, MATS3001, MATS3002
  • Direct work experience working in laboratories focused on research of complex oxide thin films (evidence to be provided with letters of recommendation) may be considered
  • Aptitude and commitment to studies in an area of Fundamental Materials Science
  • Personal qualities, namely communication skills, evidence of leadership skills and/or teamwork

Preference will be given to:
  • Prior experience of research in a laboratory focussed on thin film complex oxides
