The Scholarship aims to assist academically outstanding but disadvantaged students, from a rural or regional area, who have been offered a full-time place at an Australian university or college for the first time. Duration of the Scholarship is one year but can be extended to two years. The value of the award is $5000 (per annum).


To be eligible, the following criteria must be met:
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident from a rural or regional location
  • First year undergraduate in 2020 (first attendance at an Australian university)
  • Studying full-time in 2020 in any undergraduate bachelor's degree (in an approved Australian course)
  • Graduated from secondary school in either 2019 or in 2018 (taken a gap year)
  • Demonstration of the disadvantage (economic and/or social) hindering further study

    Selection criteria

    Scholarships will be awarded on the recommendation of a selection committee and will be assessed on academic achievement, demonstrated disadvantage and community contribution.

    Community Bank Scholarships

    This Scholarship is for students who reside in, or have attended a secondary school in, the local area of the relevant Community Bank branch offering a scholarship. Some Community Bank branch scholarships may support studies at university or TAFE, whilst others may support studies at university only or TAFE only. Please contact the participating Community Bank branch for a copy of the fact sheet to see what is on offer.
