Outline

The purpose of the award is to support Phase 3 BMed/MD to undertake a 4-week clinical elective placement in Radiology (Diagnostic) at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.

The award will provide $10,000 USD to cover the costs of the clinical elective and some travel costs.

Dates available for travel in 2025 include:

  • 21 July - 15 August, 2025 (falls within TP3).
  • 15 September - 10 October, 2025 (falls within TP4).

Flexible dates are available applicants who have completed a radiology clerkship in the area of Diagnostic Radiology. This will be arranged on an individual basis with the successful recipient.

Adjustments for Phase 3 sequence will be made for the successful recipients to accommodate the four-week elective placement at John Hopkins. This is to ensure no delay to the expected Phase 3 completion at the end of 2026.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Be currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Medicine (BMed) and completing an Independent Learning Project (ILP) in the field of radiology; or
  • Be currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science (Medicine) Honours in the field of radiology.

Please note: Successful recipients will be required to submit a Visiting Medical Student Program application via the JH VisMed Portal, and be accepted by John Hopkins University.

Selection

Each applicant will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate:

  • Academic Merit.
  • Leadership skills (school, workplace or community).
  • Extra-curricular activities (sporting, cultural activities, volunteer/work experience).

In addition, applicants are to submit an outline of their ILP or Honours project and include:

  • How the elective program will benefit your area of study.
  • An example of your aptitude and commitment to studies in the area of radiology.
  • Future interest in this area (1000 word limit).
