Outline

The Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship is a remarkable opportunity offered to passionate and curious individuals looking to expand their worldview, embrace new perspectives and help build stronger ties between Australia and Asia. Westpac Asian Exchange Scholars receive funding to undertake exchange in a selected destination in Asia for up one year and includes participation in a bespoke Leadership Development Residential hosted in Singapore. This funding supports travel, study and living expenses as scholars immerse themselves in the cultural, social and political experiences the region has to offer.

The Scholarship is awarded by the Westpac Scholars Trust to undergraduate Australian students who are undertaking a half or full year exchange in Asia.

Students need to apply for the Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship and must also apply for and be accepted into the UNSW Exchange Program.

Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Be an Australian Citizen or Australia Permanent Resident; and
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree course at UNSW Australia and have completed at least 72 UOC at the start of your exchange; and
  • Be eligible for and applying/ applied to go on Exchange in the second half of 2024 to a partner university in:
    • Mainland China
    • Hong Kong
    • Japan
    • South Korea
    • Taiwan
    • Singapore
  • Maintain a minimum of a credit average at the time of application and throughout the selection process
  • Not currently be holding or intending to hold another merit based scholarship for the purpose of tertiary study in Asia (eg New Colombo Plan).
Selection
Scholarships are open to students from all walks of life, who have the passion, ideas and drive to be an advocate for Australia's relationship with Asia. Westpac Asian Exchange Scholars will demonstrate the following:
  • A clear understanding of Asia's role in Australia's future prosperity.
  • A desire to learn about a specific Asian culture, language, tradition or business through a combination of academic study and cultural immersion.
  • The potential and ambition to contribute to strengthening Australia-Asia in their future endeavours.
  • A genuine desire to be an active member of the Westpac 100 Scholars Network.
  • Academic Excellence.
